Local Fishing

Fishing in the immediate and surrounding area is second to none! There is an enormous Large Mouth Bass population and plenty of Small Mouth Bass, Northern Pike, Crappy, Bowfin (Dog fish) and millions of pan fish to name a few. Dog lake is also known for its Lake Trout fishing. This area attracts serious fishermen from far and wide.

Rideau Breeze Marina Fishing Derby

Entry Fees

The entry fee is $20.00 in Canadian Funds. Entrants will receive a contestant hat and $10.00 will go into the prize purse. Winners will also receive a plaque from Rideau Breeze Marina and their names will be engraved on the Marina’s plaque.

Prizes

The total amount of prize purse will be divided into three (3). There will be three (3) winners who share the prize purse:

1/3 of prize purse for the Heaviest Pike

1/3 of prize purse for the Heaviest Bass on Live Bait

1/3 of prize purse for the Heaviest Bass on Artificial Bait

Rules & Regulations

You must be a contestant prior to catching the entry fish.
Fish must be caught and landed by the contestant.
Fish must be caught in the Rideau System between Jones Falls and Brewers Mills Lock (Dog Lake is included).
Contestant hat must be worn at time of catch and at weigh-in.
In case of a weight tie, length of the fish will determine the winner.
Fish weigh-in at Rideau Breeze Marina only and during normal business hours of 7am to 9pm seven (7) days a week.
Winners do not need to be present when the derby closes, but the contestant is responsible for seeing that we have your correct mailing address so we can forward the prize and plaque.
Anyone may enter except owners and their family.
Rideau Breeze Marina reserves the right to refuse any fish which the owners of the Marina deem is presented in such a condition as render it unfit to return to the water, be eaten, or dead long enough to have lost its colour or not entered in good faith. If refused, entry fee will be refunded if the derby hat is returned in reasonable condition.
A contestant may enter all categories but will only be allowed to win one category. The entry that is the heaviest shall determine the category won.
There will be three (3) mystery prizes awarded from all the weigh-in fish.

Duration of the Derby

Derby opens on the day of opening season for particular species. Opening day for Pike is May 9, 2009.

Opening day for Bass is June 27, 2009.

Derby closes for all categories at 12 noon (by the cash register) of the Tuesday after Labour Day (September 8, 2009). Under no conditions will a late entry be accepted.
